Columbia | Brian Bohannon

by Brian Bohannon
“Portrait”: When school lets out in Columbia, traffic nearly slows to a standstill along Highway 55 and the Wal-Mart parking lot is where everyone goes to cruise and be seen out by their friends. Steven hitched a ride home with a friend with a car rather than wait till his mother could take him home after school.
“Couch”: Resigned to a Friday night on the couch, Steven flips through the channels after seeing all his plans fall through. The first this he did after walking home from school was to get on the phone and try to find a way out with someone, or find, something, anything, to do. Without success, hope gave way to despondency, which turned into a nap on the floor.
“Classroom”: Steven begins his school day with a prayer group that meets before homeroom. A member of the Columbia Christian Church, Steven said he “tries to hang around with Christians,” following a suggestion offered to the youth of this church.
“Crowd”: Steven cheers with the Pep Club at an after-school rally for the football team. (Far left) Steven socializes with some members of the opposite sex.
“Bus”: The craziness that proceeds the loading of the band’s bus for a game in Glasgow find Steven in a compromising position, and Amanda Keith stands ready to keep him there.
“Walk”: Steven always keeps in touch with his friends. They’re never more than an arms length away, and they’re usually female.
