Edgar “Petey” Haley unloads hay from a wagon on his farm during late October afternoon in Macon County. “I shared my first tobacco crop when I was eight years old. The first crop I had was about a half an acre. I got $50 as my part of about $100. Boy, I though I was rich. That was a whole lots of money back there in the late ’30s.” -Edgar “Petey” Haley
Edgar “Petey” Haley pulls down bales and puts them on the elevator going to the barn. Each bale weighs between 40 and 85 pounds. “I shared my first tobacco crop when I was eight years old. Edgar “Petey” Haley and his son, Michael, 24, worked five hours putting up 250 square bales. “I shared my first tobacco crop when I was eight years old. The first crop I had was about a half an acre. The Total Look beauty salon is just off the town square in Lafayette. Myra McClard, who co-owns the shop, laughs at a remark from Sarah McClard, her mother-in-law.
Earlene Claiborne has been patronizing the Total Look in Lafayette for 12 years. Every Friday she has a wash, set and nap.
