Lafayette | Amethel Parel

by Amethel Parel
Doug and Denise Holder have owned Indigo Blues, a clothing store in Lafayette, for eight years. The store specializes in casual clothing for adolescents and teen-agers.
As a family-run business, Indigo Blues has a comfortable atmosphere. Customers can hear Nicholas Holder, 5, race up and down the aisles, his feet funding the store’s wood floor.
Denise and her son play hide-and-seek while Doug does business on the phone.
Combining work with play, Joni studies for a spelling test and wrestles with her brother, Nicholas, while riding to her violin lesson.
Bedtimes comes between 8 and 9 p.m. for the youngsters. Then Doug and Denise can relax.
The family gives its support during Joni’s nightly 30-minute violin practice.
Paul Curtis and his friends spend most of their time in the Lafayette town square trading knives, chewing tobacco and whittling cedar. They call themselves the “Spit and Whittle Club.”
Joni and Nicholas Holder of Lafayette, TN stand in one of their favorite places. This is also the college where Joni takes violin lessons.
When the Holders are not tending the store, Doug and Denise concentrate on taking Joni to violin lessons and Nicholas to piano lessons. Here, Doug tells Nicholas a story while they wait for Joni to finish with violin practice.
