Preacher

by John Simpson
Ron Tucker, 37, nicknamed “The Preacher” has spent his life in Russell Springs.

Poking fun at a minister while growing up branded Ron Tucker for life.

“I used to mock the preacher when I was real small,” said Tucker, a Russell Springs resident. “I would imitate the preacher; whatever he said, I would try to act like him.”

“I grew out of it, but they still call me ‘the I preacher’, ” Tucker said. “Sometimes I preach, but not about the right things.”

Tucker, 37, talks to customers as he bags their groceries at the Super Key Market in Russell Springs. He has been with the company 16 years. People are more likely to call him by the nickname than his real name.

Tucker has another trademark, his 1955 Chevy. The classic car boasts a new coat of white paint with yellow, orange and red stripes. “It’s my pride and joy.” Once the car had its own nickname “double-nickel” painted on the side. Still many people recognize the car and honk and wave when the preacher drives by.
