Fisher of men

by Randy Greenwell
Brother Lewis smith enjoys fishing early in the morning in the pond behind the Creelsboro Christian Church.

Lewis Smith goes fishing a lot. Sometimes for bass – or sometimes for new members for his Congregation. Smith is minister of the Creelsboro Christian Church, nestled in the hills about 20 miles southwest of Jamestown.

“It was a love affair from the beginning,” Smith said about arriving to Creelsboro six years ago. Since then, he has commuted from his Harrodsburg home every weekend to bring the word of God to his church. When Smith isn’t busy studying the scriptures, preaching a sermon or calling on community members, he fishes in a small lake behind the church.

“Sometimes I catch something; sometimes I don’t,” he said.

Smith has ministered across the nation and overseas but said he is most fond of his current position. He and his wife, Ann, plan to move to Creelsboro soon.

“I find the people of Russell County to be the salt of the earth.”
