Weekend adventure

by Tracey Coleman
About 12 scouts camped out at the Russell Springs Fairground, eating outdoors, playing games, sleeping in tents and, generally, making memories. Shawn Godby takes in the view.

Cub Scouting builds patriotism and moral character, according to Cubmaster Mike Godby of Russell Springs.

“Boys learn by what they do,” Godby said. This is like a family, “not just a bunch of boys that get together.” It’s also fun, the scouts of Cub Pack 241 agreed.

Sticking his face out of the warm tent, Cub Scout Joe Willard said, “The fire’s lit,” as he led his friends into the cold Saturday morning air. When another scout came out of the tent with some frost brushed on his jacket, scout Ricky Harris said laughing.

“He slept in his coat and came out frostbitten.”
