Grandma’s Kitchen

by Cindy Pinkston
Maggie Froedge owns and works at Grandma’s Kitchen in Edmonton, Ky. 1985.

Margie Froedge is a grandmother, but that’s not why her doughnut shop is called Grandma’s Kitchen. She named it that to remind folks of old-fashioned cooking.

“Almost everybody has a grandma and a kitchen,” she said ‘It’s a familiar name, you know. We didn’t name it on account of I’m a
grandma, But I get nicknamed that.”

Margie’s husband, Kenneth J., delivers doughnuts to area shops in the early morning and manages the variety store in the adjoining building. Her two daughters-in-law also work with her in the shop.

“My family is real important to me,” she said. “Every one of them is.”
