Golden girl

by Kathy Forrester
Jody Darville, 16, cheerleader for the Metcalfe County Hornets in 1985.

Joy and enthusiasm shine in 16-year-old Jodi DarVill’s eyes. That enthusiasm is the thread she weaves through her many activities.

She leads cheers for the Metcalfe County Hornets, plays in the marching band and maintains straight A’s in school. Last summer Jodi was one of three Metcalfe students chosen as Governor’s Scholars. She loves to go to church revivals, mainly for the music.

Gospel music is fun to sing in a crowd, she said, because “when you sing gospel, no one can hear you.”

Jodi lives with her parents. Laura Kay and Steve, in a house on a cliff overlooking their 350-acre farm. She has an 8-year-old brother named Whit and a 13-year-old sister Tara. The family also includes pet boxer Shorts.

During Hornet games, Jodi wears her maroon and gray cheerleading outfit while she marches with the band – an embodiment of school spirit.

But even after a 33-7 football loss, Jodi doesn’t cry She rebounds to console the players.

A friend once asked Jodi when she started getting busy She grinned. “WhenI was born Nov 5, 1969.”
