Hair Care

by Robin Crumpler
Fanny Fields, hairstylist from Edmonton, Ky. in 1985.

Fanny Fields has been styling hair for 47 years. She got her hairdressing license from a Bowling Green beauty college in June 1938. By September 1938, she had her first shop, on the square in downtown Edmonton. She expanded the shop, but it burned later that year.

Keeping busy is a way of life for her. Getting up at 6 each morning, she works in the shop and later travels each week to nursing homes in the area, to style and cut the residents’ hair.

In her spare time, Fields enjoys music and redecorating. She plays the piano for services at the Edmonton Methodist Church and provides organ music for horse shows in Metcalfe and surrounding counties. She lives in a house built by her father and her husband. She has done so much redecorating that there are only two windows remaining from the original house.
