Never a cross road

by Katie Bowen
Marie Anderson with her husband Ray Anderson.

“Me and Jack has never had a cross word.”

Ray Anderson has worked for Jack (Charles Guthrie) for more than 30 years. He is very proud of their relationship.

Ray’s father worked for the Guthrie family His 26-year-old son, Stevie, is carrying on the family tradition. With his father’s supervision, their tobacco crop continues to pay top dollar.

Now retired, Ray continues to live on the Guthrie farm with his wife, Marie, their two grow children, Stevie and Irene, and their dog Shorty.

When I think about Ray Anderson, I remember some lines from a poem by Robert Penn Warren, “It  is hard sometimes to remember that beauty is one word for reality.”
