Melody of love

by Ella Oakley
Bedouin (left) and Randall (right) Dennison laughed about a story from the past.

Love doesn’t just come once. For Randall and Bedouin Dennison, it came twice.

Randall, 83, and Bedouin, 67, were married to other people for 26 years, but knew each other previously. Randall was a doctor and Bedouin had a store; the buildings were across the street from each other. Randall and Bedouin also shared a love for music as they both grew up in musical households.

Bedouin played piano and sang. Randall noticed her from the back row of the choir.

“She was just another voice in the chorus when we first met,” Randall said.

They met again at a wedding years later, both single.

“We were still singing together and I thought…maybe we’ll see if she’s interested in some old guy,” Randall said. “And she was.”

“He said, ‘I had symphony tickets last week and I started to call you, would you have gone?’” Bedouin recalled. She said yes.

For the first year, they were just friends, then the spark rekindled. Now, they’ve been together for 20 years.

They love to travel and experience music from different cultures. They go to symphonies when they can in Cincinnati, Louisville, even Owensboro, and every year they go see the University of Kentucky’s Christmastime “Collage: A Holiday Spectacular” with a group of their work colleagues, their spouses, and kids so they can enjoy it together.

On Friday night, they went out to eat together at deShā’s, and they invited Bedouin’s mother, Charlene Duncan, to join them.

“It’s Friday,” Randall said. “It’s date night.”

They had a nice dinner and to end the night, they went home to play some more music.
