People often describe Luke King as humble, but he’s more than that.
There’s a kindness in how he approaches his work, his relationships — and the small, ordinary moments that make up a day.
In Maysville, things have a way of running quietly. The streets get cleared, the lights come on, the brush piles disappear — and behind it all, Luke is making it happen.
As Public Works director, Luke spends his days keeping the town moving in ways most people never see. “Trying to do the job like I do in my house,” he said, matter-of-factly. “Do it right, take care of it, keep it working.”
He started as assistant director in 2022 and stepped into the director’s role a year later. A graduate of Deming High School and Bluegrass Community and Technical College, he approaches his work with pride. He’s also a big believer in teamwork—and his team notices.
“He values my input,” Assistant Director Kyle Saylor said. “He’s a great human being.”
Out in the field, Luke moves easily among the crews — part supervisor, part neighbor, part friend. There’s no flash to his leadership.
At home, life is changing fast. He and his wife Shannon are expecting their first child, a daughter named Ruby, in December. The two met in 2018 after she added Luke on Instagram because they had mutual friends. “He looked cute,” she recalled. A few days later, they went on their first date.
“She’s the nicest girl I’ve ever met,” Luke said, smiling. “We like to joke around and be goofy together.”
