The Cards You’re Dealt

Mary Ruth Saywell loves Elvis, scrapbooking, taking pictures with her purple digital camera and meatloaf day (Thursday). Saywell, 40, is legally blind and has Down syndrome. Mary Ruth’s parents, Bob and Doris, made every attempt to raise Mary Ruth just the same as someone without disabilities. Because of her parents’ efforts, Mary Ruth is happy and active in the community. She’s trounced long odds. And nothing will change Mary Ruth’s view that it’s not a Thursday — it’s meatloaf day.
