Courtly moments

Elizabethtown High School senior Hillari Caso and her mother Lari Caso savored every moment leading up the the school’s homecoming football game. Hillari was on the homecoming court, and though she was not crowned queen, the event was one of the most memorable of her year.

Lari has been involved in every big event in her daughter’s life, and homecoming was no exception.

As the homecoming game approached, Lari carefully prepared for Hilari’s big day by making hair appointments, buying special makeup, and helping pick out her homecoming outfits. “I think my mom is living vicariously through me and feels like she’s the homecoming candidate,” joked Hillari.

As the two sat on Hillari’s bed one afternoon the mood got a little somber as Hillari started discussing going away to college. Lari’s eyes teared up when she explained she’ll be losing her best friend. ”I can’t imagine not hanging out and just talking every day,” she said.

Hillari knows that her moving away to college will be tough for both of them, but that didn’t stop Lari from supporting her daughter in her choice to leave. ”My mom doesn’t question me. She only supports my decisions because she trusts me,” Hillari said.
