Second year teacher, Teresa Strickland and 30 year veteran, Katherine Brown, spread the energy from the Mayfield pep rally before the school's rival football game against Paducah Tilghman. During the pep rally for the Mayfield vs Tilghman rivial football game, Katherine Brown and other teachers competed against each class of students in a Sheet Pull race. "I had to hold on, he was pulling me so fast," said Brown. In teams of two, one pulls the other wrapped up in a sheet across the gym floor and the fastest relay time wins. Students in Katherine Brown's Algebra I class know when they have the wrong answer and Brown isn't afraid to tell students what she thinks. "I talk loud, but to holler and scream at students, I don't do it," said Brown. "I just have a loud voice." Jordan Starks, 16, feels the wraith of Algebra I. It's not easy being a freshman in Katherine Brown's class. Brown is known around the school as being tough on students, but every student receives individual attention throughout class to understand difficult material. As the sponsor of the Cultural Diversity Club, Katherine Brown hands out officers ballots for elections during students' lunch period. Brown is known throughout Mayfield High as a tough teacher and Brown has been tough on Jamaud Noonar before. "She's a good teacher. She just gets on you a little too much. After a long work week, Saturday provides Katherine Brown with a little bit of free time to take care of some house keeping.When the work day ends, Katherine and Marvin Brown take the pressure off their feet and relax while watching Wheel of Fortune and reading the daily newspaper. Their son, Frederick, 20, provides some helping hands to keep the house picked up and dishes clean. The Brown's have taken the responsibility of holding together a small congregation of 8 people at the Church of God and Christ, without a pastor. "My husband is the deacon.
