A Cut Above

by Lance Booth
As Barbie Hill holds her two-year-old son, Mason Oliver, while he screams, and Brenda LaRue gives him a haircut, Harris takes a break while he doesn't have a customer to read the newspaper.
As a customer gets ready to leave, Harris comforts him about the economy.
Bill Clapp, 81, is the director of the card room on the third floor of the Graves County Courthouse, where men get together to play cards.
Haley Conder, 16, enjoys a moment with her 5 month boyfriend Ryan McReynolds, 17, on her birthday.
Before each customer takes a seat Harris holds the chair so it wil not spin when a customer sits down.
At the start of everyday Harris gets to work a little early to drink coffee and to read the newspaper. The barber shop opens at 8am, but Harris typically gets there at 7:45am.
Charles Ray Harris trims the hair of a customer. Harris has been been cutting hair for over 40 years. "Being a barber is an up close and personal profession," Harris said.
Boden Diel, 2, gets a trim, while he holds a couple of the toys the barber shop has. "He (Harris) has cut four generations of my families hair," said Amanda Diel, Boden's mother.
A customer gets his haircut by Harris. Harris said he gives 12-15 haircuts a day, which he has been doing for over 50 years.
Three-year-old Cejay Riley plays with her grandfather, John Riley, while he waits for his turn to get a haircut.
