Lasting In Love

"I think it's a shame to leave the flag out all night or in the rain," said Leon Carter, 96, of Mayfield. He served two years in the U.S. Army, starting in 1944.
Picking though a tree of potassium rich banna's Leon Carter, 91, of Mayfeild hands off a banna to his wife May Carter, 91, at the Food Giant in Mayfeil. May and Leon share banannas becuase a hole one is so much to eat for either one. " He can still eat all day, I don't nearly yeat as much i used to." said May.
"Oh, she is the sweetest little thing," said Rita Herndon, a worker at Hair Port, about May Carter, 91. Carter, now a retired homemaker, prides herself on the cleanliness of her home and appearance.
" I wind the clock twice a week and oil it with a dab of oil on a piece straw and i to that every fifteen years of so." said Leon Carter, 96, of Mayfeild. Leon a master craftsman built the grandfather clock.
"He has gone thought at least three hearing aids, now he just doesn't use them," said May Carter of Mayfield. Now May, 91, and Leon, 96, just have to be close when they talk. "Most of the time when I see people laugh I just have a laugh along with them, but I can't hear them," Leon said. May and Leon were married in 1935.
Leon Carter, 96, braces himself before heading out of his garage/ workshop. "It's hard to keep my balance when I walk," Leon said. He was a master craftsman and farmer when he was younger.
Every morning Leon Carter, 91, of Mayfield reads over his well loved bible. Carter and his wife May Carter, 91, read the bible and pray card after breakfast and before they go about doing thier own things.
"Can you believe we both have all our own teeth?" said May Carter, 91, of Mayfeild. " I think she is so cute when she wears that hat." said Leon Cater, 96, of Mayfeild. The Carters have been married for 72 years. he Carters pose for a portait in their backyard.
"If I said we never fought, that would be a lie," said May Carter, 91, of Mayfield about Leon, her husband of 72-years.
"She did a fine job on them," Leon Carter, 96, said of his his wife's repair job on the knees of this pants. Leon and May, 91, have been married for 73 years. "I just loved cleaning and working around the house," May said.
