Coal Miner’s Respiratory Clinic

Former coal miner Alice Lovan, 55, undergoes a Maximum Voluntary Ventilation test to measure the amount of air she can draw into her lungs and the speed at which she can move it. On Friday, Lovan underwent a series of tests at the Coal Miner's Respiratory Clinic at Muhlenberg Community Hospital to determine her eligibility for federal aid to treat her respiratory illnesses.
Dr. Valentino Simpao examines Alice Lovan in the Coal Miner's Respiratory Clinic at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital. Lovan has been disabled by respiratory illness for the last year and she's being tested for eligibility for government aid for her medical bills under the Black Lung Benefits Act.
Darrell and Tara Newsome of Madisonville bundle up their newborn daughter Emily for her first trip home from the Trover Regional Medical Center where she was born on October 18. Emily has one older sister, Rebekah, who is 2 years old.
