Longhorn Love

by Jessica Rotkiewicz
Stella takes a closer look in her fields to see if a new calve has been born. After examining the area for a few minutes she realizes it is only a bunch of leaves.
Stella likes to have a clean barn and is constantly shoveling manure. Two of her least favorite tasks on the farm and scooping poop and weed eating.
Stella several times during the morning refills the trough to prepare for the next feeding of longhorns.
Before the sun raises Stella begins her day at the Diamond C Ranch, shoveling poop inside the barm. "I can't stay in the bed and sleep," said Stella. "I just automatically wake up at 4:00 o'clock every morning and get up."
Stella rides on the tailgate of her truck as it is driven through her pasture to feed the longhorns. To attract all her cattle Stella yells, " Come and get it girls."
Being sixty doesn't stop Stella; she is a hard worker who raises early every day to complete daily chores on the farm. "I grew up on a farm when I was a kid," said Stella. "I have worked all my life. Usually people say that's why I'm healthy because I do the stuff I do."
Jessica Starr celebrates her 18th birthday surround by her father Steve Starr (left), grandfather Charles Starr, step grandmother Melinda Starr and mother Treasa Starr at Bartholomew's Restarant.
A streak of lights are seen outside downtown's Main Street as cars pass by during the evening.
