Raising Grandkids

Uncomfortable silence often follows arguments as Angie Scott, 25, left, and her mother, Shelby, 67, struggle to live together. Angie is a recovering drug addict, so Shelby has custody of her daughter's three children. October 18, 2005, Lawerenceburg, KYAngie Scott, 25, and Shelby Scott, 68, sit across from eachother in an uncomfortable silence after arguing about their problems with living together. Angie, a recovering drug abuser, says her mother naggs her to the point of wanting to relapse. Shelby thinks her daughter need to take more responsibilty for herself and her three children. Shelby has custody of the children.

Eight-year-old Dylan Scott, the oldest of Angie's three children, watches his sister and brother play after their mother left their house. "She says, 'I'll be back' and she doesn't be back," Dylan says. October 19, 2005, Lawerenceburg, KY- Shelby Stump,4, and Dalton Stump,5, run wild as their brother, Dylan Scott ,8, sits among them. Dylan always gets upset when his mom leaves the house. "She says I'll be back and she doesn't be back. She used to do that." Angie Scott, thier mother, is a recovering drug abuser.

Shelby Scott, 67, laughs at her grandson, Dalton, 5, as he talks about his girlfriend. "You never told me you had a girlfriend," Shelby said.
