Tienda David, formerly La Guadlapana, recently moved from 210 to 101 Broadway St. in Cave City to meet growing customer demand. Tienda David was originally a bank and still has two walk in vaults to prove it. Bars on the windows are the remains of the building's most recent resident - a gun shop.
David Bell's idea of good customer service is bad for his sleeping habits. Since Bell lives on the second floor of the building that houses his store, his customers often wake him to shop before the shop 'officially' opens at 11 a.m. He also rarely closes his store until the last customer leaves.
The local Hispanic community doesn't have to go any further than Tienda David to get a taste of home. David James Bell is the owner of the store, which carries everything from international calling cards to a touch of Mexican culture abd food items.
The recent addition of a satellite dish has finally brought Spanish broadcasting to Tienda David. It's a hit with the Hispanic clientele: Viewings of soccer and Spanish soap operas are often standing room only.
Latin rhythms flow from the speakers as these customers select the next song to play on Tienda David's jukebox.
Migrant workers congregate in the game room at Tienda David to play pool on a rainy Friday afternoon.
David Bell's store is many things to its Hispanic customers -- a place to purchase imported food, to chit-chat and to have fun. Here, a customer plays pool.
